Maroon Abboud is a Haifa-based self-taught artist born in 1973 in Shefa-'Amr. Shaped by a vivid curiosity and a lifelong drive to create, he discovered his artistic voice through the streets of Haifa — observing, wandering, and learning from the artists he encountered along the way.

Maroon's primary medium is metal. He learned welding from an early age and became captivated by the material's strength and flexibility, transforming raw sheets and industrial hardware into striking sculptures. His most distinctive body of work consists of life-size human figures assembled entirely from thousands of small nuts and bolts — a painstaking and deeply personal process he finds endlessly absorbing.

Alongside his metalwork, Maroon developed a rich practice in ceramics, mastering techniques of clay preparation, firing, and glazing. His love of the sea and of diving — a passion he still pursues today — is reflected in an extensive collection of fish sculptures, some of which he cast in bronze. His ceramic work also includes boldly colored earthenware bowls and architectural forms such as miniature houses.

With no formal academic training, Maroon's artistry is entirely self-developed — built through observation, experimentation, and an unwavering obsession with making. His works have been exhibited in Haifa's Wadi Nisnas neighborhood, in group shows across the region, and most recently in a dedicated solo exhibition held at his own Haifa workshop, now known as Maroon Gallery.

His sculptures carry a strong aesthetic presence, and are considered worthy of display in leading galleries and exhibition spaces both in Israel and internationally.
